(EMAILWIRE.COM, July 24, 2013 ) San Francisco, CA -- Pipestone residents are having to come together as a community after a tornado ripped through their town. Pipestone lies nearly 100 kilometers southwest of Brandon and southwest of Manitoba. The Tornado was said to leave the town looking like a war zone.
Roofs were blown from building structures, while mobile homes were overturned. Some trees in the area were even uprooted, while power lines were knocked over and communities were left without electricity.
Ross Tycoles of Pipestone stated that the town suffered significant damage. Part of the hall roof was taken, half the rink was taken, damage to mobile homes and trailers. [It's a] really big old town with lots of trees and most of them are down, he told CBC News.
Pipestone resident Tessa Turnbull noted that some trees actually landed on her neighbors house, and caused significant damage. A used car lot had vehicles destroyed as windows were smashed and debris slammed into the cars.
Theres just buildings down everywhere, she said.
Hail and heavy rain accompanied the tornado itself. Crops were flattened in the area, which is a spot already attempting to recover from severe flooding that stemmed from Junes rainfall.
Im actually overwhelmed, said Tessa Turnbull. For three weekends in a row we have been doing nothing but cleaning up one mess after another mess from mother nature. Its just been one continuous clean up after another, she said.
The group Environment Canada stated that it is likely a tornado touched in the area. The belief is based on radar information and eyewitness accounts of the day in question. The group plans to send a team out in order to check the general damage done to the area and signs of a touchdown.
