(EMAILWIRE.COM, July 24, 2013 ) San Francisco, CA -- Almost every and any public safety agency available in the Twin Cities came together to Monroe Saturday afternoon. It was not an emergency of epic proportions or a call for help that brought the agencies together. Instead it was the need to put on the Public Safety Expo.
The event is in its sixth year and has been organized by the Louisiana State Police department at the Civic Center.
According to a statement released by the Louisiana State Police Superintendent, the group believes that the troopers should be a part of the community and not stand apart from them.
Colonel Mike Edmonson added that The mission of the Louisiana State Police is to ensure the safety and security of the people in the state through enforcement, education, and other essential public safety services.
The expo featured displays, demonstration, and held informational booths for citizens to learn more about their varying agencies. On display were two helicopters as well. One was from the police department, while another was a medical chopper used to transport victims of crime or accidents.
Pilot Al Franklin, stated that the expo, and others like it, helped serve the community in many ways. Weve been coming here for a while, Franklin said. I think this is a good idea. It gives the public some familiarity with all of us and what we can do. They can learn about our procedures.
Brandon Waggoner, who is with the Tensas Basin Levee District police, stated that the expo allows for law enforcement and public safety to look into the general work. A lot of time, they only see us after something bad has happened, Waggoner said. But this is good, because people can see we do a lot of good. Weve gotten some good feedback from the people that are here.
