The anniversary of the vocational training institute this year was given a theme: Empowering the Girl Child through Education and Training Skills for Nation Building.
Dr. Edward Prempeh, who is a renowned medical practitioner Kumasi noted that the low level of education amongst the majority of women does not bode well for the socio-economic growth of the nation overall.
According to Prempeh, the lack of education amongst women is responsible for most women suffering from a lack of self-esteem. He asserts the lack of requisite skills, expertise, and knowledge needed to ensure a positive impact is the main negative impact.
Mancell College, which is one of the few pre-independence vocational training institutes to establish itself in the country, and has equipped many women in the country with the skills needed to become employed in various sectors of work. Such work even includes the skills and leadership qualities to make a true positive impact on the nation as a whole.
Dr. Prempeh noted that a country in which women are marginalized systemically, as well as discriminated against, need education systems provided that allow opportunity which they can liberate themselves through their improved situations.
Prempeh paid tribute to Rosamond Mancell, who founded the college with her vision and mission of stressing women's normative right and capability to be capable of education. She believed that they could accelerate the socioeconomic climate of the country through such endeavors, which is the goal the institute continues.
