The race kicked off at 8 a.m. Thanksgiving Day on the campus of Sacramento State. Over 4,700 runners lined up to compete in the 5k, 10k or 10k wheelchair courses, with the fastest 5k runner crossing the finish line in just under 15 minutes.
Funds raised by the event totaled $115,000 from online and offline sources. Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services is unique in that 100% of the organizations net profits are put directly toward serving families within the Sacramento community. Over 23,000 men, women and children benefit from these services and are provided with food, clothing and education because of it. With over 5,400 volunteers to help with its operations, Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services is supported through private donors and charity events like Run to Feed the Hungry.
The services the organization provides are at no cost to those in need. Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services offers six distinct programs to cater to the needs of its various participants. In addition to youth education, adult programs provide parents with training to effectively raise children in a safe and nurturing environment, while seniors benefit from companionship and grocery delivery programs, among other services.
