Investigations reveal a growing number of identity thefts that happen virtually through some kind of radio frequency equipped card. While the scanners are supposed to be used only in designated areas as office, work, school, hospitals, among others, there are still people that illegally take hold of scanning devices and use them for wrong purposes. Called an RFID skimmer, or reader, the device is used to scan through the card to retrieve the victim's personal information.
The stealing is easily done with an RFID skimmer. It only takes the high-tech pickpocket to walk with the victim and staying near, direct the reader to the pocket or purse that contains the RFID card. Without any effort, this person gets all the details he needs for fraudulent uses.
