(EMAILWIRE.COM, August 27, 2013 ) Norwich, VT -- Americans are so busy that most don't have time to eat well. Obesity has become epidemic, stress is constant, and even Grandma doesn't have time for a homemade Sunday dinner any more.
For those reasons, a Vermont woman launched a new concept in food designed to "help busy people eat better" -- sweet potato salsas -- and they have just launched on Amazon.
Sweet potato salsas are a brand new idea to everyone except Lisa Johnson, founder of Yummy Yammy, and the fans she has built over nearly four years of sales. "It's the first truly superfood salsa," Johnson explains, "and we've been selling it for a few years to local stores in Vermont, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts. But we kept hearing from people all over the country who were frustrated they couldn't get it."
Now all five of her sweet potato salsas are available to shoppers in the continental United States through the largest online shopping platform, Amazon.com. And she's using her current fan base to spread that news to new customers, and offering free food to thank them.
"People's time is valuable, and I really appreciate that our fans make the effort to let their friends know about us. By participating in our contest, they're sharing their social capital with us, and that means the world to a small business like ours," explains Johnson.
Anyone who enters the contest automatically gets a chance to win one of the three prizes: a mixed case of 12 jars of Yummy Yammy Sweet Potato Salsas, a Yummy Yammy t-shirt, and a Yummy Yammy apron.
Beyond that, every entrant can multiply their chances dramatically by sharing the contest with friends through social media outlets like Facebook and Twitter and email.
"The more ways you tell about it, and the more people you tell, the more chances you get," says Johnson. "Our customers tend to be 'foodie' types, and when they rave about us, it's usually to a bunch of other foodies, people who love to know about the new, fun, delicious treats out there. It's super nutritious too, so athletes and healthy eaters will also want to know about it. I love offering rewards for helping us reach those folks."
The salsas are different from typical tomato-based salsas -- Yummy Yammy brand salsas have no tomato at all, relying instead on flame-roasted sweet potato as the base of all the flavors: Mexican, Tuscan and Moroccan.
The contest runs until September 12, 2013, and of course, the chances of winning will depend entirely on how many people enter, and how many chances they get by spreading the word.
