(EMAILWIRE.COM, July 27, 2013 ) Greenville, SC Two southbound lanes on Interstate 77 gave been closed after the Department of Transportation found a foot wide pothole in the bridge deck over the Catawba River.
Construction crews are busy working on these potholes in hopes to re-open the bridge by Monday. It was nearly a month ago when crews were working on a similar pothole in the northbound lanes.
After the original pothole was discovered, the DOT immediately began inspecting all I-77 bridges beginning at the North Carolina state line. Reports by the DOT indicate that the most recent pothole was discovered roughly eight miles south of the state line.
Over the coming weeks inspecting crews will be looking over I-77 bridges heading south to Columbia in order to ensure the safety of drivers traveling across this interstate.
