Dan Milano, who got to check out a Timeline redesign test page, reports that the social media giant has given some signs about what users might expect next.
Look for Books, Movies, Music and TV Shows to join Facebooks default subsections, which appear when no apps are installed. Users who already have these categories likely have apps for them. Previously, the built-in categories have consisted of Events, Friends, Likes, Map, Notes and Photos.
Facebook will duplicate and split up the content of its central likes page, according to Milano. This central page has displayed all of a users likes for music, movie and TV, and clicking an item takes users to the Facebook page for the artist, film or TV show.
There are hints of change coming for how people listen to music on Facebook, Milano says. The reporter received a prompt to access an app for MySpace after selecting Britney Spears but a different artist yielded a prompt for a Spotify app. Milano speculates that the different providers are the result of different deals artists have struck for streaming content.
Although Milano could add the Music collection to the Timeline, the Movies and TV collections could not be added. It was not known what apps might be linked to those features. ABCs account does not have apps for Spotify or MySpace Music, Milano added.
Facebook might be looking for a way to provide a popular way for Timeline to access streaming media, Milano says. That could enable users to access content through friends pages and make Facebook a hub for content. That means someone could watch what a friend is watching.
Facebook has confirmed that it is testing new designs for Timeline as well as features for News Feed, but it would not provide details.
