(EMAILWIRE.COM, July 23, 2013 ) San Francisco, CA -- Just a few short weeks ago, an Oklahoma County judge made the difficult decision to award sole custody of Sarah Elizondo to her father, who had served six years in prison on charges of raping his former stepdaughter.
Elizondo was pulled over Sunday for speeding, but when Bakersfield police searched his car, a bullet was found in the backseat. Because he is a convicted felon, Elizondo is not allowed to own firearms or ammunition of have them in his possession.
Sarah has been taken away from Elizondos custody and given back to her mother, Lisa Knight. Elizondos bad luck may just be good luck for Knight and her family, who said goodbye to Sarah in Oklahoma when she left with her father to live in California. Since then, he family started an online petition asking a judge to give custody back to Knight, gaining signatures all the way from New Zealand.
Knight received a call on Monday from the department of childrens services that her ex-husband had been in trouble with the law again. She said shes had little contact with her daughter since she moved to California, and one time on the phone Sarah began crying because she wanted to go home to her mother in Oklahoma, but she wouldnt let her dad see her cry.
According to Elizondo, who spoke to a local news station in Bakersfield, California, the bullet belonged to his 20-year-old son. He has proclaimed his innocence since he was convicted of lewd and lascivious acts with his then 6-year-old step daughter.
California DHS will be inspecting Elizondos home and will make a decision on whether or not Sarah should be returned to her father.
