There are studies that show nail growth and health are influenced by the environment, and have shown that nail clippings are able to express a person's mineral metabolism, such as the totality of calcium ingested. The procedure is often utilized to detect mineral compounds in patients that
have mineral-based diseases.

New Jersey residents living in the immediate vicinity of the exposure could be retaining the chromium at high, and potentially dangerous, levels. Researchers plan to test nearly 250 individuals. Each will be given kits that will instruct them on how to cut the nails to then be submitted. The final results will be created within a few weeks.

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention has described the hexavalent chromium as a compound that normally is exposed present in manufacturing plants, and is often recognized as a workplace carcinogen.

According to The Environmental Protection Agency, the plume, which is measured at three-quarters of a mile wide, traveled from the Passaic River to the city of Passaic. They are now expecting to drill the spill site and remove the soil they deem contaminated.

Bae-Harboe explained: Using an appearance-based intervention approach, I aim to impact self-perceptions of photo-aging, which may be an indicator of skin cancer risk, to ultimately cultivate better sun protection habits.

My belief is that modern males, age 21 to 35, are very engaged with the idea of tailored clothing, said Tom Julian, director of strategic business development for the Doneger Group, a fashion trend marketing group. Its part of a major wardrobe change for many of these guys. Dress-up looks were never part of their lifestyle since casualization in the workplace began in early 1990s.

4th Annual Welding Competition Set to Provide Students with Opportunity in Art Project

This year the competition will be held at the Francis Marion Universitys Arts International Festival on Saturday. The FDTC Education Foundation and ESAB Welding and Cutting Products companies are sponsoring the event for the fourth year, and will provide backing for the entire daylong free event.

The contest will begin with teams of professional and student welders running in a scrap dive in order to find useful sculpting items. The competitors will pick out particular items of metal,
then turning their welding tools and creativity onto the scraps and turning them into art. The teams will have up to eight hours to complete their particular sculptures.

The theme of the competition for 2013 is wildlife, and a panel of judges will be selecting the best pieces for both professional and student division, which involve both awards and cash prizes.

All the artwork will then be auctioned off at the completion of the competition in order to benefit the FDTC Educational Foundation scholarship fund.

The ESAB has been a long-time supporter of welding education as a whole, and partnered with the college in 2001 to support professional welding programs. The ESAB also outfitted the FDTC Welding Program with a wide array of welding and cutting equipment, along with continued support to education within the industry.

Yoga Not Only Shaping Body and Mind, but Also Societies

Yoga's overall popularity has increased in the United States within recent years, and a 2012 study showed the number of participants within the country rose from 15.8 million in 2008 to 30.4 million last year. Those numbers indicate that 8% of U.S. Adults now practice yoga. The two largest motivators for the activity is flexibility and overall general conditioning, according to the study.

Now it is becoming clear that the interest in yoga is not merely a United States-based phenomenon. Ishaq notes that she had never seen yoga within Yemen, and furthermore, the few gyms that allowed women to exercise were not accepting of outdoors exercising.

"Women can't exactly put on their running shoes and go outside so yoga appeals to them because it is a full package, they just need a mat and comfortable clothing," Ishaq explained to CBS News.

The Yemeni women that attend Ishaq's classes range from 20 to 50 years of age. Many came to yoga with a weight-loss aspiration, according to the teacher. However, after attending a couple of classes, many state that they feel more calm and posses a new sense of bodily ownership. Yoga provided an outlet for for the physical and the mental, it seems. Within a country that does not always allow such concepts for women, it certainly is a treat for many women.

Ishaq was 13 when she began her venture into the activity. As an preteen she suffered from severe migraines that left her bedridden for nearly three days a week. She was living in Yemen, and moved to Scotland where her migraines continued.

"Doctors came to the house and gave me morphine and explained that the problem was genetic," Ishaq says. But the morphine and other medicines did not help.

She then discovered yoga after finding videos of the activity when she was in Washington D.C. To visit family. She found that a mixture of running and following the yoga instruction assisted her in handling her migraines.

After that, she was determined to bring yoga to Yemen. After she became certified, he brought the practice with her and is now happy to share it with the local women.

Yoga has not simply caught on in Yemen, but has also been seen as a tool for change in other countries, such as Kenya. "We are trying to create a value system around well-being," Paige Elenson, the co-founder and director of Africa Yoga Project (AYP) in Nairobi Kenya, explained.

Elenson has trained many yoga instructors, and also provides 300 free outreach classes in community centers, women's groups, and even prisons. Instructors for the AYP are becoming role models for the children in the poorest parts of the country, as well as those in the richer commercial regions. The wide spread interest in the activity is a possible catalyst for change when it comes to socioeconomic groups.

"We are trying to recreate the yoga industry," explains Paige.
